Bec: Don’t have time for that. Welcome to today’s Mash Snack, a five-minute digital marketing episode to get you thinking and have something to talk about at your next Zoom meeting. Something we are asked all the time by clients, prospective clients, friends, you name it is, “What are the best free SEO tools out there that I can use to monitor my website or monitor my progress?” So today we have Camille [SP], our SEO manager in the booth. And so Camille, what are your say top four best free SEO tools out there that anyone can sort of use themselves?

Camille: Hey, Bec [SP], thanks for having me in this week’s Mash Snack episode today. So to answer your question, what are my favorite SEO tools, I’m just going to quickly describe the four tools and softwares that I use every day in my role as an SEO manager at Mash Media. So the first one is one of Google’s free tools, Google Search Console, aka GSC. What I love about GSC is that it just provides you with a mine of information about your website. For example, it measures the traffic governance. It can report on technical issues such as 404, page load, etc. There’s so much information you can drive out of GSC to learn more about your website. You can use it to learn how Google discovers your contents, hide crawls, and indexes your web pages. You can gather lots of performance and technical insights with it and if you haven’t verified your websites with Google Search Console, I suggest you just pause this podcast right now, go ahead and get that sorted out.

The second tool I’m going to mention is one that I use almost every day. It’s also a bit technical, but it’s got one of the coolest names, Screaming Frog. Screaming Frog, it’s simply a desktop crawler so as your spider tool which comes with a free version and that free version allows you to crawl I think the first 500 URLs it discovers which is kind of more than enough if you have a small website or if you’re working with small businesses websites. So as a frog, what does it do? As I said, it can crawl any websites and it extracts data such as page titles, meta descriptions, status codes, HTML headers. I mean, you can extract any data you want really with a bit of configuration. So yeah, it’s probably my go-to tool to prove on technical SEO audits, battling analysis, and yeah, so many other things you can do with it. It’s kind of only limited by your imagination so I recommend you just go visit their websites, browse their blog, and they provide lots of very detailed guides to teach you how to make the most of it.

My number three tool that I use almost every day is Ubersuggest which is a keyword research tool by Neil Patel. Yeah, it’s one of my absolute favorites and the good news is it’s 100% free to use. So you can gather content insights, perform keyword research, obviously, discover popular topics in your niche, and you can do so much more with it. One of the great things about it is that Neil Patel listens to the community of marketers and SEOs who actually use the tool and he constantly improves it based on feedback. So the version of today is probably not as new as the version of tomorrow. Finally, number four is SEMrush suite. So it comes with a free trial, but it’s not a free tool. Full disclosure, I don’t have any affiliate relationship with those guys, I just want to talk about it because it’s a great tool. It offers lots of SEO and marketing insights and I basically do everything with it. So technically, I would use it for content and technical audits, keyword research, keyword tracking, competitor analysis, yeah, performance reporting, pretty much everything. So yeah, that’s it. If you have any questions, feel free to voice them in the comments section of the podcast. Bye.

Bec: Thanks, Camille. Yes, that is excellent information. So just in case you didn’t get those all written down, the first one was GSC or Google Search Console. It is free, completely free, you just have to do a bit of a Google validation to get it set up on your website. Screaming Frog which is just fantastic for crawling your website, Ubersuggest for keyword research and SEMrush which isn’t free but does have a free trial is just fantastic for all-rounder. And I think the amount of money you do pay for the proper version is well worth it, if you’re managing a big website or e-commerce or something like that. So definitely check those out, guys. Until we see you next time. Bye.
